Public Notice

Pursuant of FHWA Requirements and in accordance with the Public Participation Plan, the following Draft is demonstrating changes to the AAMPO Metropolitan Transportation Improvement Program (MTIP). Public Comment is available at the AAMPO Technical Advisory Committee meeting on June 18, 2026 and the AAMPO Policy Board meeting on June 24, 2026, or sent to AAMPO staff via email at bmcgregor@ocwcog.org. A physical copy is on display at the Albany Public Library located at 2450 14th Ave SE, Albany, OR 97322.

Transportation Planning

Established in 2013, AAMPO facilitates regional transportation planning for Albany

AAMPO members include the Cities of Albany, Jefferson, Millersburg, and Tangent, as well as Linn and Benton Counties and the Oregon Department of Transportation. Metropolitan planning organizations (MPOs) are established by Federal directive for all urbanized areas with a population of 50,000.

Oregon Cascades West Council of Governments connects local governments and communities with services in senior care, community programs, economic development, and transportation.

AAMPO Policy Board

The AAMPO Policy Board advises staff on issues related to policy and programs for the organization, and is comprised of local elected officials, representatives of varying transportation modes in the Region, State transportation agencies, and non-voting members, including Federal transportation agencies. Key responsibilities of the Policy Board include adoption of AAMPO’s long-range transportation plan; transportation improvement plans; annual work programs, budgets, and other policy documents.

AAMPO Technical Advisory Committee

The Albany Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (AAMPO) Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) is the advisory body for the AAMPO Policy Board on issues that are primarily technical in nature. The TAC interacts with AAMPO staff on technical matters relating to planning, analysis, and projects, prior to presentation or recommendation for action to the Policy Board or the public.

Occasionally, additional committees and working groups are formed to assist with planning activities. A Regional Transportation Plan TAC (RTP TAC) was formed in 2018 to help guide development of AAMPO’s long range transportation plan. The RTP TAC includes all TAC members as well as additional transportation stakeholders representing economic development, public safety, community planning, public transportation, and the general public.

As part of the regional transportation planning process, AAMPO is responsible for developing:

  • AAMPO Staff members are currently working on updating the AAMPO Regional Transportation Plan.

AAMPO created a bicycle and pedestrian plan for the Greater Albany Area.

The plan identifies projects, programs, and policies that make it easier and safer to walk and bike in the greater Albany area. This plan was approved at the April 26th AAMPO Policy Board Meeting. Resources for this plan are available below:
