Policies & Important Information

Please review the important rider information below before scheduling or taking a trip with Ride Line. These policies explain what to expect, what services are available, and what requirements may apply so you can plan ahead and avoid delays or service issues.
  • Attendants: Only one person may ride with the member free of charge. A member 12 years old and under must have an attendant over the age of 18.
  • Mileage Reimbursement: If you drive or have someone who can drive, you may be eligible for mileage reimbursement to and from your appointment. The Member Portal cannot be used to create mileage trips. See NEMT General Requirements.
  • Pharmacy Stops: Adding a stop at the pharmacy must be requested while you are scheduling a ride to the medical appointment. You can cancel at any time if not needed.
  • Seat Belts: Seat belts must be worn for the duration of all rides. Riders with an Oregon Exemption Card must show the card to the driver.
  • Driver Policies: Drivers are limited to door-to-door service and cannot assist with feeding, dressing, etc. Drivers cannot install or remove car seats. Car seats must be removed upon arrival at the destination. Drivers cannot sign documents on the client’s behalf. Drivers cannot take the place of a medically necessary attendant. Drivers cannot sign members in or out of appointments.
  • Cancellations/No-Shows–Service Modification: If you need to cancel a ride, you must contact Ride Line as soon as possible or use the Member Portal. Voicemail and the Member Portal can be used any time day or night to cancel rides. Ongoing No-Shows may result in limited-service offerings.
  • Same-Day Rides: We will make every reasonable effort to schedule same day requests, but they are not guaranteed rides. Availability varies based on locations and drivers.
  • In the case of an emergency, call 9-1-1.

Weather Concerns

Extreme weather may include but is not limited to:

  • High heat
  • Extreme cold
  • Flooding
  • Heavy snowfall
  • Icy roads
  • Tornado warnings
  • Wildfires

Transportation to critical medical appointments, like chemotherapy, dialysis, or other life-sustaining treatments, will still occur whenever safely possible.

Important things to know:

  • Every car has a working heater and air conditioner. All cars also have snow chains for winter weather.
  • If the weather is too dangerous for a driver to reach a member, the driver will tell Ride Line right away.

Ride Line will try to find another driver or transport service to help. If no one else is available, and the appointment is not life‑saving or critical, we will call the member to let them know the ride is canceled because of the bad weather.

Mileage Reimbursement Program

The Ride Line Transportation Reimbursement Program offers a travel allowance to eligible Oregon Health Plan Plus (OHP+) and InterCommunity Health Network (IHN) clients for certain travel expenses while traveling to and from a covered Medicaid medical service. Clients requesting transportation reimbursement typically have access to a working vehicle or know a friend or family member that is available to drive them to their medical appointment.

All transportation reimbursement requests must be approved before your appointment through Ride Line. Trips not prior authorized are not eligible for reimbursement.

Oregon’s Transportation reimbursement rules are defined under OAR (Oregon Administrative Rules) section(s) 410-136-3240 through 410-141-3960 and in the Division 136 “Medical Transportation Rule Book” available through your case worker or online here.
